Wine auction at Emmanuel College

Wine Auction
Last night was one of my more surreal evenings in Cambridge.   I was invited to a wine tasting and auction at Emmanuel College, which took place in the oak panelled old library. As we sat below centuries old oil paintings of former college presidents and amongst the great and good of Cambridge, we tasted a selection of wines whilst the college auctioned off dozens of bottles, for the benefit of Cambridge RAG. Even more obscure was that the auctioneer fell off his bike on the way to the auction, and so a member of the audience stood up and, off the cuff, gave the most superb tasting notes on pretty much every bottle of wine auctioned.

The auctioned wine was donated by a number of colleges, from their cellared collections. I ended up bidding on, and winning, a cheeky Chateau Cantenac Brown (1995), which will complement a good dinner at the end of term.

Whilst the Cambridge MBA may be similar to those of other top European business schools, the distinct advantage of coming to Cambridge is everything else the university has to offer. It's nights like these that remind me exactly what it is that makes Cambridge such a special place to study.
